About

Boston Units is the public record of the Boston multifamily market. It is free, permanently, with no paywall, tiers or gated data.

Why it exists

Sales of multifamily buildings in Suffolk County are public record, but they are scattered across the Registry of Deeds and assessor files. Boston Units brings them together into one consistent, checkable record, built the same way every week.

Boston Units has its own editorial purpose: keeping the record. Igor Tanaka writes the commentary. The figures come from the record, computed as described in the methodology.

Fair housing

Equal Housing Opportunity. Boston Units follows the federal Fair Housing Act and Massachusetts fair housing law. We do not steer, and we do not describe neighborhoods by the people who live in them.

What this site is not

Boston Units does not publish market predictions, interest rate commentary, or investment, legal, tax or financing advice.
